Race and ethnicity are social constructs, not biological categories. In America, a set of specific historical circumstances led to the world's first race-based slave system. Throughout our history, the search for racial differences has been fueled by preconceived notions of inferiority and superiority. 

​How do we decide what labels to apply to people? Why do we use racial and ethnic labels? What do we gain or lose by using these labels?

En Estados Unidos, un conjunto de circunstancias históricas específicas condujo al primer sistema de esclavos basado en la raza del mundo.A lo largo de nuestra historia, la búsqueda de diferencias raciales ha sido alimentada por nociones preconcebidas de inferioridad y superioridad.¿Cómo decidimos qué etiquetas aplicar a las personas?¿Por qué usamos etiquetas raciales y étnicas? ¿Qué ganamos o perdemos al usar estas etiquetas?
